Nubel: November newsletter

Hey! Good morning.

It feels like ages since I sent my last email. November was long and busy!

If you haven't seen much of us at events or on social media, that's because we've been deeply engaged in conversations with customers. It turns out that the feature set we released last month (a job portal) might not align as strongly with our value proposition as we initially thought. There are several reasons why recruiters and employers may hesitate to post their jobs on Nubel. Additionally, building a job board portal isn't a priority for us. We only developed it to 1) start a conversation with employers and recruiters and 2) support the growth of our talent pool. After all, there are many excellent job portals out there.

The biggest pain points recruiters and employers mentioned (in this round of interviews) are:

  • The effort and time required to source candidates for a position. And the generally poor outcome of that first round of sourcing.

  • Since the initial sourcing is broad, going through all those candidates and deciding who's going to move forward to the interview rounds is again a "lot of work".

  • Scheduling interviews is cumbersome. Especially for recruiters that have to schedule it for three parties: them, their client, and the candidate.

Despite these challenges, it was exciting to see how Nubel’s emphasis on detailed candidate profiles sparked creative discussions. Some innovative suggestions included:

  • Have "nuggets" of information before the interview. This includes:

    • Examples of work.

    • Job references (and other verified endorsements).

    • Videos of the candidate (personality, energy levels, communication skills).

  • Being able to source passive candidates—even the ones that aren't on LinkedIn.

  • Have a Nubel Chrome extension to supercharge LinkedIn profiles. By having the extension—and if the candidate is on Nubel—you'll see that extra info on top of the LinkedIn's profile or on a side.

It was inspiring to experience the industry’s creativity firsthand. Leaving the computer behind to connect with people in person was energizing—thank you all for your insights!

Next steps

This round of feedback was amazingly great. It was mind opening. And it was overwhelming!

Our next step is to understand the feedback and decide what to do next. For our next Build-Measure-Learn iteration, we'd like to improve the clarity of the iteration's goal and the speed of execution.

I wish I could share more concrete next steps, but we really need a few more days to analyze everything we've learned this last month and carefully plan our next move.

How to support Nubel

  • If any of the things I mentioned in this email resonated with you, I'd love to hear about it.

  • If you or your company have a job portal, I'd love to buy you a coffee and chat.

  • If you just want to enjoy the rainy Vancouver and go out for a hot chocolate, put a day and time and I'll meet you there.

Thanks again for your constant support.
